'I Need A Minute' from Imagine Dragon's self titled EP released back in 2009 serves as a really good starting point for the band, until falling into the hands of the mainstream. It's a full fledged rock song, and I like to think of it as a time capsule of this era of indie. Jagged guitarwork, danceable drums, loads of synths, and a mixing job that never gives enough room for all the instruments to breathe just screams 2008. Lyrically, it's weak, Dan 'ShakeMyBody' Reynolds still has some work to do in that department, but their sound is irresistible. It's a really fun and catchy song that's definitely the best off the EP. I've always wanted to give Imagine Dragons a proper shot, but everything I've heard from them is awfully generic, annoying, or laughably bad. This EP, and especially this song, proves that if you look in the right places, you might actually enjoy something from an artist you may dislike.
