The debut from the indietronica three piece from the Manchester scene that fell off the radar just as fast as they saw fame contains slick alt-dance grooves, Friendly Fires-esque dance-punk, euphoric and atmospheric structures, and a wide sound pallet. All of these influences and ideas add to the uniqueness of their sound and makes 'Acolyte' a standout record. Tracks like 'This Momentary' and 'Red Lights' are great presentations of their successful experiments. The production and the mixing on this thing is also amazing. Nothing sounds cramped and all the instruments flow with each other very well. Even with their diverse selection of sounds, I couldn't spot any messy areas in here.
Seems like they tried to squeeze an ounce of filler with Ephemera, which is obvious considering the track length and I immediately thought it was a pointless addition. Submission feels somewhat dull, and not as spectacular compared to the rest. Those are the only issues present on this record. Thankfully, the closer 'Remain' makes up for those issues because it's a fantastic closer. I can't name a better way to close a record like this.
